hi i’m Saffron……..

I

don’t think many of my students would describe me as a typical yoga teacher, I’m a round peg in a square hole, let’s say. I’ve been around the block a few times and I try my hardest not to take myself or life too seriously (apart from in this picture where I’m very serious). I love a good giggle and I’ve learnt to embrace what it means to be human with all our uniqueness and imperfections.

I’ve had a long love affair with a physical yoga practice, but I came to teaching late in my life, after a long period of life stress and illness, and out of a desperate need to feel well again.

Having experienced it first hand, I passionately believe in the therapeutic use of all aspects of yoga as a tool for managing dis-ease within the body and supporting the nervous system.

be well.

I fiercely believe everyone deserves to be and feel well. Simple.

I also believe we all have everything we already need to take care of ourselves, but sometimes life gets in the way and we need a little guidance.

I offer a variety of different yoga classes so that I can reach and include as many people as possible.

From hatha, slow flow and restorative yoga to the more dynamic vinyasa flow, my classes integrate and honour the ancient teachings at the heart of yoga, (such as pranayama), while embracing all that it means to function and be well in the modern world.

Balancing strength and flexibility with the opportunity to slow down, rest and most importantly…….. breathe.

During my 20 year career in holistic and natural health I have seen “wellbeing” become a growth market commodity to the value of roughly $3.5 trillion. This fact boggles my brain, being well is promoted as a lifestyle to be purchased, our health is being sold back to us.

In a time when self care couldn’t be more important, this consumerist view on how we look after ourselves makes me feel uneasy. It perpetuates the idea that we don’t know what is best for us. It leaves us dissatisfied and wanting, and feeling like life is a problem that needs to be fixed.

So….. I want to hand the notion of being well back to you, the incredible individual that you are. I hope by sharing my personal experiences I can allay any fear that you may have and demystify the idea that you need to be young, slim, flexible and able bodied to benefit from the practice of yoga.

After years of self neglect, my relationship with my body and how I look after myself is ongoing work especially as I age. It is not always pretty, I’m by no means the perfect yogi. Often my practice is sweaty and ungraceful and probably not as you imagine.

But by being honest about my own struggles on and off my yoga mat I hope I can help you rediscover the joy of movement and breath without the need for comparison or competition.

My mission is to spread the message of self acceptance and empowerment in every lesson I teach. I strive to create the space for each student to slow down and explore their bodies in a fun, non judgemental and non performative way and to celebrate the incredible things it can do regardless of your age, shape, race, gender or postcode.
